Westview Elementary

Westview Families,

It is hard to believe that we are almost into March.  We are now entering the busiest part of the year.  As you all know, we have had a number of activities that have been going on here at Westview.  We are finishing up our chocolate sale and it seems to have been a success. I know I have bought my share and then some of bars.   We also had our first of hopefully many more Family Movie Nights.  Our PTO purchased a 24ft movie screen, sound system, and projector for the school.  We had 73 people show up to watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  A good time was had by all.

Springtime is also the time when we need to complete the state assessments.  Our third grade students will be taking the IREAD3 assessment March 16th through the 18th.  Make ups will follow.  Come April, our third and fourth grade will be participating in the ILEARN.  We will be sending tips for you and your students to help be successful on these tests.

Finally, please make sure you continue to check your student’s backpacks.  Our teachers continue to send information home.  Also, please make sure your students are getting enough sleep at night.  We have seen a large number of students who are coming into school very tired.  A tired student becomes unregulated and an unregulated students struggles to learn.  We want every student to be happy and successful.

Until next month, take care of yourself and please let us know if we can help you.

A few general reminders about procedural items.

Students need to be in class and ready to begin their daily activities at 7:50. Our dismissal time is 2:40 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We dismiss at 1:40 on Tuesday. We need for all our students to be here daily and on time. Attendance is a priority at Westview. Please schedule all appointments after school hours.

Please remember to drive safely especially during drop off and pick up times. We have many wonderful kids and we need your support to help keep our school safe. If you are in a hurry and do not have time to wait, I suggest that you do not pull into the circle drive. There are alternative drop-off locations available; these options include dropping off your child at the corner or on one of the side streets. If you need to come into the building to talk with one of us, please park your car in a parking spot.

When we have a two-hour delay, school will start at 9:50. Breakfast is not served when we are on a two-hour delay. You can access school closings/delays by going to the Richmond Community Schools web site, listening to the radio, or watching television.
